December – May · Chamonix · UIAGM guided

A day of
ski touring
above Chamonix.

Lift up, skins on, a summit nobody else is standing on, and a long valley back down to the bar. Where exactly we go is decided after we talk — because the right objective depends entirely on who you are.

How it works

There is no
fixed route

Most companies sell you a named itinerary and hope you fit it. I do it the other way round. We speak first — about what you have skied, how fit you are, whether you have ever used skins, what you want out of the day — and then I choose the objective. The Chamonix massif has enough terrain that there is a right answer for everyone, from a first gentle climb to a committing line. Finding that answer is the part you are actually paying a guide for.

The day

From the call
to the bar

The shape of the day is always the same, even when the mountain changes. We gain the height we can with the lift, earn the rest on skins, and spend what is left coming down something quiet.

1
We talk first
A call before anything is booked. Your skiing background, your fitness, whether skins are new to you, what you are hoping for. From that conversation I build the program — this is the step that makes the rest of the day fit.
2
We meet at the lift
At the base of the cable car, with your pass already sorted. I check your equipment before we go up — better in the valley than at altitude.
3
Up with the lift, then ski
We use the lift for the height it gives us and ski from the top — the fastest way into real terrain and out of the crowds.
4
Skins on — the climb to the objective
This is where ski touring starts. We fit the skins and climb at a rhythm you can hold all day, to whatever we agreed on the call. If you have never done it, I teach you the technique as we go; it is easier than it looks and harder than it sounds.
5
The descent — the valleys
Skins off, and down. The big valleys of the massif, on snow nobody has touched, all the way back down. This is the part people come back for.
6
The bar
We finish where every proper day in Chamonix finishes.

from €650reference price

A reference figure for the day. The final price depends on the size of your group and the date — and on the program itself, which we settle on the call. Write to me and we book the call.

Level required. From complete beginner to expert. No previous ski touring experience is needed — if you can ski, there is a tour here for you. What matters is that you tell me honestly where you are on the call, so I pick the right objective.

Before you book

Common
questions

Do I need previous ski touring experience?
No. The day runs from complete beginner to expert, and the objective is chosen to match. If you have never put skins on a ski, I teach you on the way up — people are usually surprised how quickly it becomes natural. What you do need is to be able to ski down what we climb.
Why a call before booking?
Because "ski touring in Chamonix" can mean twenty different days, and only one of them is right for you. Ten minutes on the phone is what turns a generic tour into a day built around your level, your fitness and what you actually want to see.
What equipment do I need to bring?
Your touring skis with skins and bindings, boots, poles, helmet, mountain clothing, and a backpack of at least 28 liters. The harness, crampons and avalanche safety equipment come from me. Everything on that list can be rented in Chamonix if you do not own it yet.
When can I do this?
December to May. Conditions change a lot across that window, which is another reason the objective is set shortly before the day rather than months ahead.
Is there a tradition I should know about?
Yes, and it is a good one. Here the day traditionally ends with the client buying the guide a drink or a meal once you are back down. It is not part of the price and nobody will ever ask you for it — but it is how most good days end, and it is usually when the day finally gets talked through properly.

Let's plan
your day

Tell me your dates, how many of you there are and roughly what you have skied. We set up a call and I build the program from there.
